My parents brought me through the back door of this restaurant through the Safeway parking lot and let me tell you- that was some weird intro to a cute Vietnamese restaurant that serves stellar Hu Tieu Nam Vang (also known as Pork Seafood Clear Noodle Soup, a popular street food in Vietnam)! The restaurant seats 40 people and yes, they might awkwardly squeeze you in to sit with other folks at a communal table when it gets busy!
My mom, whose an amazing cook and was a chef at a Vietnamese restaurant back in the days, recommended that I try the Hu Tieu but also applauds for the Bò Né (ducking beef which translates to ducking/avoiding the splatter of butter and oil as the beef is sizzling on a hot plate). I have to say the noodles are A+. It comes with a dish of bean sprouts, green lettuce, crown daisies and flat leaf chives. Mmm!! On the table there's red diluted vinegar, fish sauce, hot chili oil, hoisin, sriracha sauce. I mean they have it all! I would mix the fish sauce with a squirt of lime and red chili's together for a nice tangy dip of my pork heart/liver or belly meat.
I highly recommend this undiscovered spot and it'd probably be best using the front door instead of the back lol. -

Huong Que is the best hole in the wall joint in Seattle for Vietnamese food. This is a no frills restaurant so don't come here expecting exceptional service or aesthetically pleasing decor. You're coming here for the food, not the customer service!! Don't be surprised if your small party is seated with another party at a large table. At the end of the day they're just trying to get you fed, even if you're seated with some strangers.
Please don't be basic and order their pho when coming here. They are best known for their Hu Tieu Nam Vang, Bo Kho, and Bo Ne (sizzling steak and eggs). I alternate between ordering their Hu Tieu Nam Vang or Bo Kho. Both dishes are exceptional with extremely flavorful broths. It honestly just depends on whether or not I'm feeling something more light or heavy, with the Bo Kho being the heavier dish. Both dishes pack on the protein, so ordering either or will definitely be fulfilling. I love the condiments that are served with their soups, especially their pickled chilies. Their pickled chilies do not play, they are so spicy yet so good.
Huong Que is definitely the best option for a home cooked meal if you're craving Hu Tieu Nam Vang or Bo Kho. Whatever you do, make sure you bring cash because this is a cash only establishment! -

I just had dinner tonight at the Metropolitan Grill. It was good and all but I just CANT stop thinking about the AMAZING lunch that I had today at Huong Que!
Almost every review mentioned that the Hu Tieu Nam Vang is the best thing on the menu, so naturally I had to order it. At first I was worried that the broth would be bland. I've never had this dish before and I didn't know what to expect. And once it came out i was all over it! The pork broth is light, well rounded out and full of flavor. The fried garlic chips on top were the best addition to the bowl. I enjoyed the pork belly, shrimp, and quail egg, but not so much the liver.
The Bo Kho was so delicous! A full bodied broth with chunks of tendon and beef swimming around waiting to be devoured! The Bo Kho is thicker and much sweeter than what I am used to and at first it was almost too overwhelming. For that reason I thought the Hu tieu was my favorite but, after a couple of limes, peppers and salt to balance out the flavors, the Bo Kho reigned supreme! Make sure you get it with the wide rice noodles! And if you want to bless your meal even more, then ask for a baguette to dip in all that yummyness!!
Eating here made me feel like I was transported to a restaurant in Vietnam/Asia. If you've been here you'll know what I mean! The restaurant was packed on a Sunday and we had to share a table with another couple. Not an issue. There's parking in the back right where the Safeway is. It's cash only so make sure to come ready!
PS, I now understand the addiction!!! -

Not fancy. Looks like a run down abandoned building with parking in the back near the Safeway. We entered thru back door walking pass kitchen. At 12:30 on a November Tuesday every table was full. There was a wait. Not long for seats to open, people share tables. There are only 8 food items on the menu and two of them are Bo Kho with either bread or noodles. I had the Hu Tieu - wow good, broth was savory, the fried shallots and other herbs were definitely critical to the overall taste, there was quail egg, heart & liver (beef or pork? Idk), ground meat (pork?), pork slices and sprouts, leaf lettuce and large flat chives all perfection. Husband had Bo Kho with bread. He loved it. Cash only, almost every dish is $10. Worth the drive & wait. Highly recommend.

Everything is sooooooo flavorful and tasty. I come here at least 3 times a month. It's cash only!! And honestly this place just gets straight the point! A small menu but everything is sooo gooYou can't go wrong with anything here.
